Bring the Fear

From a Maerchenhaft Farmer

A farmer has sent in a heartfelt plea for help regarding his youngest son. During the heavy winters three years ago, his son took cold, and ever since has been acting a little... reckless. He doesn't appear to fear anything anymore, and it's led to his parents being concerned he'll get himself killed for the lack of common sense he also suffers, now a strong young sixteen year old. Please help put the fear back in this young man.

Curse Attained: The freezing of one or more emotions.

Pearls Before Swine

A young merchant sailor in the city has been cursed by a mer of unknown origins, left with a riddle and the ability to cry nothing but imperfect pearls. He's asking for help breaking the curse, and offers the riddle as a means of solving his crises.

Curse Attained: Bodily fluids (tears, blood) become gemstones of some kind upon leaving the body.

The Dvergar (akin to dwarves) of Kaurankia Land's leaders' daughter has been repeatedly stolen away in the night by giant dogs, returned by dawn. The young woman being spirited away is requesting assistance in stopping the one responsible. Her fathers heavily second this request.

Curse Attained: The ability to take on domesticated canine features, to turn into a canine, or to speak canine.

When will they be doing this quest?: Uh, probably also between the 21-31 August but we can also bleed a little bit into September before the new event information goes up
Any specific information you'd like to request about this quest from the start:

❀ Are there maybe any clues about where the curse came from? Like, it didnt just.... come from no where, did it?

Correct, it didn't just come from nowhere! The first clue is the season it occurred, and while this will technically be heading into spring seasonally, it's enough to notice that around the affected young man, things are markedly colder, and more frost happens around his home than elsewhere in the town or fields surrounding town. When it comes to the young man himself, looking deep in his eyes will show tiny little snowflakes perpetually falling instead of the reflection of the person he's looking at. If either of them can sense anything about another person's body, there's both something odd about his heartbeat, and also a shard of ice lodged in it. That's entirely normal. (Not remotely.)

He himself is not particularly so much cold as he is detached; he smiles without warmth, he faces everything without reservation, and he doesn't understand fear. Even during exercise his heart rate doesn't pick up much, keeping him perpetually... cool.

(His heart rate never picking up is, indeed, another clue.)

Asking about these things individually around the town they'd be visiting or from Tamnaeuth or the academics at the Garrison can provide hints as to a source: the Snow Queen. However, solving this young man's problem or solving the source of what caused his problem aren't the same thing: unless Tsurumaru and Cheng Qian would like to go haring off after the Snow Queen after solving this poor family's trouble.

HAH i wondered if it was Snow Queen related after reading it. Anyway!!

I'm assuming quests are pretty free/open for us to get creative and decide how we go about and resolve them? Would you like us to come up with a plan and run it by you first?

If this ends up being the case, I'll talk things out with Kiki and Jami for both quests and come back with any questions/etc we come up with!

Quests are entirely open for you to solve as you like! You're just as welcome to submit rough ideas if you want ideas for possible successes or consequences, but that's just a for fun extra option, not anything needed. Linking the log or thread once you have it started is really the last step of the process, outside of asking any other questions for extra details (if wanted) along the way.

ROUGH DRAFT OF A PLAN:

Tsuru and Cheng Qian are going to visit the family as part of an initial visit. They'll talk to the family and learn a little bit about their situation and do some investigating— checking out around the home, figuring out the cold air around the son, and eventually some of the other things. Neither of them can really sense details about the human body so they'll miss the ice shard for now.

They'll head out into the town, ask around, and try to do some research where they'll find out about the Snow Queen and learn about the icy heart situation.

They'll try to break the curse by focusing on his heart after that. Their final plan beinggggg

CQ's canon powers involve making charms and sending spiritual energy through tao. Tsuru's really sensitive about ~matters of the heart~ because he's a spirit with humanity so they'll try to use ~the power of love~ to break the curse. CQ will basically be on standby while……. Tsuru tries to make the family cry over their son/brother. He'll explain most of the situation to them but pretend they can't help and the son is beyond help. They'll cry and Tsuru will collect their tears?? CQ will channel that energy?? Into melting the ice and hopefully breaking/drawing out the curse that way.

This is beautiful and that young man is going to have the fear of disappointing his family engraved into his bones by the end of this, how beautiful...!

But yes, sounds lovely all around! Is there anything else you'd like to know details wise, or are you set for now?

Question from Kiki: Would the young man remember seeing anything the night of the snow storm? We don't want to write in the snow queen appearing for herself or anything if that doesn't work.

I think Kiki might want to pursue meeting with the Snow Queen in the future too once this quest is over but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

The young man prior to his curse being resolved won't remember much, just that he recalls watching the heavy storms around that time from the window. His family can corroborate that he was particularly preoccupied by the storms they were having three years ago, asking them if they "heard that." When asked for what he was hearing, per his family, he said something akin to a woman singing, and she sounded so lonely.

The young man doesn't remember this, but after the curse is broken, will be able to recall having heard the most beautiful, lonely song tangled up in the wind. He'd felt sorry, and a little afraid. He can also recount at that point where it felt as if something very cold entered his eye, but how he'd forgotten those details when he woke up the next day, and only recalled them now.

Kiki is definitely welcome to do so (as are you and anyone else), though that'd probably be a "month long" quest given the Snow Queen doesn't live anywhere nearby, per say, and travels on winter storms (hope everyone likes glaciers...).
