Tamnaeuth's Address

You awake after a kiss of some kind to find yourself in a softly lit room with stone walls and the scent of damp ground and plant life, laying in a glass coffin. You wear nothing, and find you're in the same physical state (or better) than you last recalled yourselves being in, with a warm Crystal hanging around your neck. There's a robe and slippers set on a table, chair, or log stump in the otherwise undecorated stone room.

A voice speaks to your mind, or to your ears, it's difficult to say which it is:

Good, you're awake. This is Tamnaeuth, Senior Fairy Godmother of Maerchenhaft Fairy Godmother Academy. Sounds like it means anything, but that's a laugh. If you want to hear about why you're here while standing around in nothing or the robes I've left out, just say "Explain it to me, Tamnaeuth, if you please" and that message will play; otherwise walk outside and find the road to get over to the Academy. It's the big stone cluster of buildings you see over the trees. If you can't see, trust your Crystal. It knows the way.

Stating you'd like it to "Explain it to me, Tamnaeuth, if you please," you'll also hear the following:

Explanations take time, none of this is going to make sense to you anyway. Here's the short version, start walking while I'm talking. You're here because you exist somewhere else, but your self carries an excess of your essence, which is what was summoned to this place. The body you're in now is one made to hold that essence, while the rest of you is back where you expect to be. Now you're here, and not just whatever you were before, but as what we quaintly call the people with the gift to handle all this world's magical mess-ups: Fairy Godmothers.

I didn't choose any of you, the summoning spell did, and I didn't even create the whole thing, but I need your help, and I'm hoping some of you are decent enough or desperate enough to do exactly that. If all you care about is rejoining the rest of yourself, then... I'm sure we'll figure that out sometime. Whenever we find the research notes related to the spell that brought you here in the first place. Now go to the Academy already, do you want to stand around in nothing but a borrowed robe?

Walking outside, you find yourself on a cliffside with paths just wide enough not to be considered narrow, and countless wood doors that all look similar to the one you just walked out from behind visible in both directions. There are paths below where you stand, and above where you stand. In the near distance, over the trees of this forest of both deciduous and evergreen trees, rise the spires of a stone structure. What might look like a castle or a fort is the Maerchenhaft Fairy Godmother Academy.

There's an older, partly grown over dirt road from the base of the cliffs leading into the woods in the direction of the Academy. Following this road will bring you to the base of the hill the Academy is built on, next to the River Lor. The Crystal you woke with sings the closer you get to the Academy, a gentle sort of song paired with a warm energy that invigorates you as you're moving toward the stone spires. Once you enter the gates, a voice speaks into your mind:

Congratulations, you've made it to Maerchenhaft Fairy Godmother Academy proper. I'm probably somewhere around, but this message plays to each of you when you arrive, to point out a few simple things.

You'll want to head to the room on the ground level with the ornate carved door. The construct that runs it is called the Seamstress, and they prefer to be addressed as such. Yes, they are bear shaped. Yes, they enjoy wearing a variety of flower crowns. Ask nicely and they'll give you one too. They've got order forms for your uniform and any clothing requests you have, and should get you your Cloth of Plenty. That's how you'll get fed if you're not much for kitchens or market days, just ask for something like goulash cherries or any other base ingredients. Nothing cooked or prepared, though meats come through in cuts if you ask nicely enough.

As far as where you want to stay, find any room without someone else's stuff in it already, then it's yours. Most of those are not inside the Academy, but out behind it, built into the rock of the hillside. Those should be the relevant points.

There's an Academy to poke around, a city of Maerchenhaft downriver, and a forest at the end of the road alongside the Academy. Where you go, and what you do, is largely left up to you.

At the Academy

As Tamnaeuth mentions, the Seamstress is not a person, but rather a room staffed by a very well groomed bear with a fancy for flower crowns. Entering this room full of shelves, a desk, and countless fabrics leads to characters being handed two forms by the bear in the most inconvenient bureaucratic move: one an order form for a Fairy Godmother Uniformand the other a request form for Other Clothing and Sundries. Those who cannot read will be provided image only forms; those who cannot see will need to seek assistance, or see about using their Crystal to "perceive" the forms, in some way or another.

The Seamstress also provides everyone with a simple looking Cloth of Plenty, roughly half a metre square. Folding this cloth and opening it again will provide characters with a raw ingredient at random. Folding the cloth and making a request for something specific will provide characters with the requested ingredients, or the Cloth of Plenty's closest approximation. As these are raw ingredients, those looking for a cooked meal will have to venture into the kitchens, which are well stocked in cooking gear and cooking surfaces of all kinds.

Those looking for accommodations will find the available rooms built directly into the hillside: all stone, with smoothed walkways and stairs and plenty of trees to both shade and help disguise the residences from outside. Some are in better repair than others, as far as the stone walls within show, but each has been cleaned and sits ready with sheets folded on a bed and towels waiting, for whomever decides to claim that space.
